New Year's Resolution? Don't set yourself up for Failure!

New Year's Resolution? Don't set yourself up for Failure!

Happy New Year!  The new year always brings a feeling of a new beginning and fresh start.  With this comes new ideas, plans and goals. All of these goals are always thought of with good intention so why not set up a plan for success with good intentions.

Everyone wants to succeed at accomplishing their new year’s resolutions but they fail to make a plan which will lead to the accomplishment.  Most people think of the big end goal but never question what are the smaller steps that need to be taken in between setting the goals and crossing the finish line.

Big goals that have an all or nothing attitude and no plan can be daunting!  Many goals we set do not happen overnight, in one month, or sometimes even a year.  So when goals take time, consistency and a plan in order to succeed, it can be unmotivating. Especially if the process, the wins, and the successes moving you forward are not celebrated or noticed. Even worse you do not even realize you need to do steps B and C to get to D.

So what are we talking about?

If you are here on the SHREDZ website most likely you have some sort of fitness, health or wellnessgoal. So let’s speak more directly to these types of goals.

If you have a goal to lose 50 pounds in 2024, that is fantastic! But how are you going to do this?

How much do you want to lose per month?

How are you going to track your progress?

What will you do to reach your goal every month?

Can you realistically do what you need to to achieve your goalsl?

These are all questions you need to ask yourself before starting your goals?

To lose 50 pounds in a year you will need to lose about 4 pounds a month. Which is actually a significant amount. This also means that you need to be consistent with your plan to lose weight.  Will you consistently be in a calorie deficit?  Will you workout to help make this calorie deficit easier?  Will you be dieting all year, or will you need a break for a birthday, vacation or holiday?

You may not have the answers to all of these questions at the moment and depending on your progress your end goall may change and that is okay!

The key to achieving big goals is consistency!  Keeping track of your progress and adjusting as you go.

Take the smaller goal of losing 4 pounds a month! This is more of a short term goal that will help you reach the larger one of a 50 pound weight loss.  You can stay on track each month by making sure you reach your monthly goals, and if something happens where you get off track you catch it sooner rather than later.  This allows you to always check-in with yourself and make sure you are doing what you need to do in order to reach your big new year’s resolution!
